25th St. Studio

Completed 2000

A new, 3 story, 5600 sq. ft, user and environmentally-friendly mixed-use building designed, built and developed by Koning Eizenberg Architecture. The building provides studio space for Koning Eizenberg Architecture in addition to ground floor commercial space and a residential loft space. Many green strategies were incorporated in the design including a passive solar vented wall and extensive daylighting and natural ventilation to reduce energy use. Provision was also made for future photovoltaic panels on the roof, which have now been installed and we can watch the meter go backwards. (See this and other green features recently added.) Low water-use landscaping and permeable parking surface address responsible use and disposal of water. Materials used include metal siding and glass with fin ply doors.

25th Street Studios received a 2000 AIA Savings by Design Award from the AIA California Chapter in association with Southern California Edison. Publications include Interiors May 2000, Architecture Australia May/June 2000 and UME15 2002.
