Rare Medium's interior was designed for an existing "bow-string truss" warehouse to house an expanding multi-media firm that provided internet sites and web-site design to a broad range of clients. They had a low budget, accelerated design schedule and wished to have a workplace that projected contemporary energy and ease. The design from a formal point of view was an exercise in spatial sequence, texture, light and the art of the "easy" detail. From an operational point of view, the client needed a flexible and adaptable configuration of computer workstations. A custom workstation geared to users who need multiple screens and external accessories is currently in design. The computer server room is the hub of this workplace and prominently featured. The data lines travel through various oversized conduits and wiring gutters keeping the technology exposed and accessible for future expansion. Offices were built around the perimeter walls. Common meeting areas are grouped in the middle with the server room. Designed, built and occupied in 5 months, Rare Medium has 10,700 sq. ft. of office space, kitchen, restrooms and lounge area.
