Completed 2001
The 11th Street Residence began as a remodel and addition
to a typical Californian Spanish style cottage. As design work progressed,
the addition grew to the point where a new house was created.
This house has a simple, modern plan of discrete rooms that flow easily
between each other to exterior spaces. Oversized sliding doors and windows
enhance views and spatial connections throughout the house. These spaces
evoke the informal, casual lifestyle of our clients and their children.
By combining a one-story living space at the front of the house with
a two-story volume further back, the 3,000 square foot home feels modest and appropriately
scaled for the neighborhood. A palette of neutral colors and textures
reinforces its simplicity.
