Herb Alpert Educational Village

The Village is a single campus consisting of a Pre-school, Elementary school, Middle school, High school, and Performing Arts Center combining a total building area of 100,000sf over one level of underground parking on a 116,000sf site. The program includes a library, gymnasium, art rooms, and leadership center.

The vision for the campus begins with a strong sense of community that is creative, flexible, and supportive of children - where interaction between adults and children is mutually inspiring and the physical environment exemplifies environmentally sound building practice - in short a heuristic environment that is socially and physically sustainable in the context of a modern city. This design approach might best be described as ecological-modern or eco-modern.

Building design and configuration maximizes opportunities for the use of passive energy systems to reduce energy use. Each of the three major schools has its own courtyard adjacent to the central academic walk. Covered outdoor spaces and planted rooftop gardens maximize usable outside space.

Project completed through the Construction Documents phase with a budget of $46,000,000.
