IMAGINING
A PITTSBURGH CHILDREN'S CENTER:
A vivid imprint of a bunch of actively engaged
children, a Post Office with dollhouse details, and a storybook-like
empty planetarium triggered our imagination in the design of the expanded
Children's Museum. We were further inspired by the innovative idea of
the Children's Center, which brings together the Museum with other children's
programs and resources, advocacy and research. Finally, there was the
opportunity to knit old neighborhoods back together that had been cut
apart by urban renewal. We wanted the surrounding neighborhoods that
were short on resources, as well as Pittsburgh (and the country) to
see the Children's Center as their resource.
