Children's Museum of Pittsburgh

In 2000, the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh held a national invited competition to expand from its home in the Old Post Office Building into the adjacent long-vacant Buhl Planetarium. Koning Eizenberg's winning design joins these two landmarks with a three-story steel-and-glass contemporary structure encased in a shade of fluttering translucent panels that designed in collaboration with environmental artist Ned Kahn. Opened in November 2004 and incorporating many sustainable design features, the Museum is the largest Silver LEED-certified museum in the country.
