The Sepulveda Recreation Center adds a gymnasium, community rooms, kitchen,
and public restrooms to existing recreation facilities located in a
park in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. The design balances severe
security and maintenance constraints with the desire to make a friendly
and inviting facility. Pattern, color, and particularly light, are used
to achieve this goal. Strategically placed skylights, clerestories,
and glassblock walls not only enhance the quality of the space but also
reduce energy use.
The 10,000-sq. ft. recreation center was built for the City of Los Angeles
Recreation and Parks Department.
