Electric Art Block

Completed 1991

The Electric ArtBlock is a 20-unit artist's loft building located on an abandoned streetcar easement in Venice, California. The 330-foot frontage faces a mix of small apartment buildings and backs onto a low scale commercial strip

This project was constructed on commercially zoned land utilizing the city's commercial and art/craft district Specific Plan zoning. An innovative development in its time, it recognizes the need for new options for how we live and work.

The project was developed by Venice Artblock Ltd. and designed by Koning Eizenberg in association with one of the development partners, Glenn Erikson, AIA. The 20 units, above parking, were built for a cost of $1,200,000.
