GYM INTERIOR
Working with parents, teachers, and staff, we created a masterplan
that detailed the phased replacement of the aging
Oakwood School (founded 1951) with new buildings that
maintain the informality of the current campus.

The masterplan accommodates 50,000 sf of new space and a more functional approach to parking and drop-off. The first phase reconfigures the drop-off line and adds the “Playspace,” a multi-purpose arts and physical education facility that includes a gym, three potential stage areas, and space for various types of performance and rehearsal. Environmental sustainability is a core value of the school and although some aspects of sustainability are invisible (like a geothermal loop for heating and cooling), other aspects (like the translucent polycarbonate that wraps the structure infuses spaces with light to reduce energy use) define the architectural personality of the buildings.
