When an academic couple bought a fourth floor co-op
with high ceilings and a long dark hallway in Tribeca
they wanted to open up the loft to create a kid-friendly
setting that would also house their large book collection.

A series of plywood sleeves add utility and reduce the apparent length of the
narrow hallway. One of the custom-built units provides storage at the
entry and the other houses books, spilling out and up to anchor the spacious living
room. The dining room’s back-lit, perforated ceiling marks home from the street.
