SMMUSD: John Adams Middle School
A small school district wanted sustainable, transformative design for upgrades and additions to a 1,000-student middle school. Our team led an interactive design effort to optimize and prioritize use of limited funds with a committee of parents, faculty and staff. Work included a new entry, renovation of existing buildings, nine new classrooms with outdoor learning spaces, and rustic landscape around a new athletic field.
Each new classroom is paired with an outdoor learning space and includes distinctive solar chimneys to provide summer comfort without air conditioning as well as an embedded empirical lesson about differential air pressure.
